Flat Panel TVs - The 3 Ss

Looking to buy a tv? So does every tv manufacturer out there. Dont get duped by mass media, know the facts and make the educated choice. You really dont need to spend the most to have a beautiful picture.

Stick to this SIMPLE guide and I can assure you, you'll be pleased for years to come.

Sony's may be a bit more expensive but they are built to last.

I like Samsung, Sharp and Sony when it comes to LCD panel TVs. Not to say others aren't good, but since its my blog I can recommend what I found to be the best in terms of quality and reliability.

As for specifications to look for:

Size - completely personal choice. Bigger isn't always better, but we don't need to go there.

LCD vs. Plasma - LCD. They are just less fragile. The technology is proven and isnt going away for a while.

Resolution - 720p is just fine, in fact can look fabulous. Sure, 1080p is better, but if you are on a budget, 1080p is not a must have. Marketers love touting 1080p, but the reality is very few programs are broadcast in 1080p, so even if your shiny new tv has a 1080p sticker on it, dont assume that its what you are watching on tv. 1080i vs. 720p...id stick with 720p.

Video Processing - 60 Hz vs. 120 Hz vs. 240 Hz Save your money and get the 60 Hz, watching in 120 Hz gives me a headache.

Contrast Ratio - not a deal breaker. 3,000:1 and higher is fine for a great picture.

Aspect Ratio - 16:9. (NOT 4:3)
